Deconstructing Advertisments

1) Obsession- Escape Calvin Klein: Clearly, the man in this ad is obsessed with himself and his body; more so with this cologne because it is what is making him seem so attractive. This ad wants the viewer to believe that with this cologne men will look the one in the ad. This ad is playing to the insecurities and desires of men to become attractive like he one in this ad; that is why Calvin Klein ads always show models in their undergarments.
2) Absolute AA- Alcohol is addictive and will cause you to be secluded from everyone else; you will be isolated or fine no one around you. Basically, alcohol is harmful for you and the spoof of this ad is that it is an Absolute ad with a picture of empty chairs shaped like a alcohol bottle.
3) Joe Chemo Bed- Smoking will simply just cause cancer; if one continues to smoke then he/she will lie in bed, have to do chemotherapy, just like Joe the camel who is now in the hospital under chemotherapy. This ad plays on people's fear of cancer and it's side effects. The spoof of this ad is the Joe Camel Cigarettes.
4) McDonald MacAttack- This ad shows how McDonald's will eventually lead to heart failure because of its unhealthy contents, just like smoking. The more people eat McDonald's the higher the chance of them ending up in the hospital with heart failure and the more likely they will have go to through heart surgery. The ad shows the life line of the heart with a person going under an operation. This ad plays on people's fears of obesity, death, surgery, heart failure. The spoof of this ad is the McDonald's BigMac.
5)CK Chicken- This chicken is good for the customer because it is "fresh young chicken with extra lean, seven percent body fat, great legs, and nice breasts". This is clearly trying to tell customers that this product is healthy for them so that they should buy it if they want those advantages or properties in themselves that may arise from buying/eating this chicken. If one eats this chicken then he/she will feel good about him/herself. The spoof of this ad comes from the Calvin Klein ads(CK). This ad is playing in the fears of obesity, and the desire to be perfect or have an attractive body.
